a sweet family for you to meet...
I was honored when Krista, a longtime friend and fellow photographer (Krista Ellis Photography) asked me to take their family photos. Bill and I have known Krista & Ben for years... before our first homes, when our dogs were our first "kids", through pregnancy (Megan was born 4 months after my Noah), to now, as we both get ready for those little babies to enter 2nd grade!
Megan is a sweetheart, and it was so fun to goof off with her and hear her giggle!

Everyone worries about having their family picture taken when they have children. Myself included... I have 3 rambunctious boys, and you never know what is going to happen when you ask them to sit still and behave.
So how do you get a nice family picture where your children aren't flying past you as you wearily smile at the camera? Well, you have your assistant bounce a soccer ball on your head right before you take the picture!
ok... it was an accident, the ball slipped, and we're still friends... but it worked & I may use that trick down the road if necessary! :)
The best way to have a relaxed, fun portrait session with kids is... to let them be kids. Mom & Dad in this session knew we might have a hard time getting the boys to sit for a picture, and let me know ahead of time. They had a great idea to let the boys play soccer for a while to help burn off some energy... and it gave the kids some time to warm up to me as I dodged the ball and snapped a few fun shots while they played.
Cute family! I love photography and I want my clients to enjoy their portrait sessions as much as I do. I'll do my best to engage the kids, ask questions, tell a story, make funny faces and be silly... soccer ball to the head, whatever...
just relax and enjoy the time with your family and I'll capture the memories for you.

Banner met Harry in a restaurant in Italy and they fell in love. True story, and it's a cool one. More on those two coming soon...
Jump ahead a few years later, many trips overseas and a move to Utah, and they are married and enjoying being a family together with Banner's two boys. A rock-climbing, snowboarding, mountain biking, camping, gourmet cooking family. Don't be jealous... they're very nice. Banner, Harry, Van & Cael... now you can be jealous of their incredibly cool names.

Ok, I am your husband and sometimes I don't realize what talent I have in my midst.
The color and light in these photos is amazing. The way the people just jump out of such beautiful natural settings.

Meet Riley & Sophie...
These two sweeties were so fun, and had a great time running through fields and jumping stepping stones across the creek...
Jenni & Chad will be celebrating their 12th wedding anniversary this fall... Congratulations! Still bringing on the hotness!
I'd bet these two kiddos get just about anything they ask for when they smile like this for their Grandma! Truthfully, had there been a Toys R Us nearby I might have been tempted to spoil them -- they are that sweet!
This arch is hidden in a beautiful spot in the woods. Looking down to the water far below made my stomach jump, so I was thankful for the fence separating me from the edge of that big hole. That might be why they are all smiling so much, it took a lot to release my death grip on the rail!
The Cherney's family portrait session included everything I love about my job... a fun family to shoot, lots of laughs and a beautiful & scenic outdoor location.
